About

I have always wanted to write, but it seemed like there was always one excuse after another why I had to wait. I didn’t have the time, the tools, the inspiration, etc. Well, I now have the time and the tools, and I realized that if I wait for the light bulb to go off and have a dream and the book has written itself..well, I will always be an unpublished author. So, I have decided to get down to business and I am researching and reading a lot, to begin work on my first novel. In the meantime I am reviewing books from other new authors like myself that have under 3 books published. I am sure that there is a lot of talent out there. I would like to thank all of the authors that value my opinion of their work. Most all reviews are from a free copy gifted to me from the author. This in no way affects my opinion and it is understood that the review is an honest opinion as a reader.

    • Thank you and I would be happy to review it. I am assuming that you do not have this in electronic form? Since it is on Amazon, you could gift a copy to my account there and they could send it to me. That would be best. I don’t give out my physical address. Thank you. You can send me an email at: becky@rebeccavance.com.

  1. I’m a freelance fiction editor who edits a wonderful new writer of adult fiction who deserves to be read. Right now he has 3 novellas and coming soon a novel titled “The God Game.” Would you be interested in reviewing one of F. Collyer Reed’s novellas recently published on Smashwords.com?

    • Yes, I would be happy to. I know that you mentioned that it was on Smashwords. Is it on Amazon too? If it is also on Amazon, my preferred way is to have the author gift a copy to my acct. there at becky@rebeccavance.com. It then downloads directly into my Kindle. I am having a problem downloading files from the computer to my Kindle right now. If it isn’t on Amazon though, I do have an account with Smashwords too, so he could gift me a copy there too.

It is good to see that more writers are getting a professional edit done prior to uploading their material. While I love reviewing debut authors, and there are some real gems, many I see are riddled with grammatical errors. I understand typos, but if the error is too bad, it distracts from the entire story.

Thank you for thinking of me, and I do look forward to reading and reviewing his novella!

      • Hi Melissa,

Thank you for requesting a review. I would be happy to review your first book, Sinful Traits. I see that you have it in Kindle form. If you could gift me a copy to my Amazon acct. that would be great. I do have quite a backlog right now, so it will probably be a few months before I can review it. If that is ok, go ahead and send it to me at: becky@rebeccavance.com. In the meantime, you could sign up for my blog, and you will be notified whenever a new review is posted. I look forward to reading your book. πŸ™‚

  3. Greetings! Would you be interested in reviewing my book- Tales From A Second Hand Wand Shoppe.
The story is a 96,000+ word, illustrated, juvenile/young adult+ fantasy fiction (mainly because of the length and younger readers might not get some of the jokes) that centers around two Gnomes – Grimbledung Sixtoes and Drimblerod Axebreath – that join forces to run a second hand wand shop in the previously calm town of Aution. Along with a talking Rat, a mechanimated Jousting Dummy, and a usually helpful (also mechanimated) Door, they run ‘Second Hand Sorcery’. Grimbledung is a bit unstable and tends to cause no end of trouble for his new partner as well as several of their neighbors; namely the Trolless (Nulu Bentknees) who runs the Tavern across the street, and the Dwarf who owns the Haberdashery next door (Pozzuoli Consigliore), as well as the Headmistress of the local School of Magic (Big Julie) who enters into a business arrangement with the Gnomes. The Gnomes’ troubles draw the attention of the local Constable (Akita Finnish) who just wants to spend his time napping in the shade all day, NOT dealing with Grimbledung’s mischief. He’s a werewolf; and contrary to popular fiction, that’s what they prefer to do.
I’d be glad to send you a copy via Amazon.

    • Yes, I will review it if you send me a copy through Amazon. I do have a very long queue, so it may be a while (up to 6 months) before I could get to it. If that is acceptable to you, go ahead and send a copy to me through Amazon. I am assuming you are sending a print version due to the illustrations? Thank you and feel free to contact me at my email: becky@rebeccavance.com. I am also on Facebook and Twitter: @beckysbooknotes.

    • Yes, I would be happy to download into my Kindle queue. Please be patient with me though. I have an extensive queue and my turnaround time is approximately 6 months right now. I am trying to whittle it down, but for now it is high. Please send me a reminder at my email: becky@rebeccavance.com the day before or the day the promo begins so I don’t miss it. Thank you!

    • Patricia,
I would be willing to review “Agnes and Ives” if you don’t mind the wait. It would be several months before I could get to it, due to an extremely loaded queue. If that is ok, then feel free to send a copy of the pdf to me at: becky@rebeccavance.com. I will add it to my Kindle queue. If you have this in a mobi file that would be best. If not, I can try it. Sometimes it won’t allow me to open it. Thank you and I look forward to reading it.

  5. Hi Rebecca

I would for you to review my story, the problem is it’s actually two books as it’s a two part story.
It is published on Smashwords and Amazon so I am happy to gift you a copy on either. It’s a crime story that’s a bit different, as it’s written as the killers autobiography.
you can see the full synopsis here and see if it’s something you’d like?

    Thank you so much

    • Thank you for writing, Lee! Your book sounds absolutely fascinating and I love the twist of being written in the pov of the criminal. That is hard to do and I would love to see how you do it, to be honest. I would be very interested in reviewing it. I normally only review 1 book per author, but in this case, I would make an exception because it is the same story in two parts. I download all books to be reviewed into my Kindle, so if you gift them through Amazon, that would be great. The only problem is my queue. It is very extensive and I’ve been considering suspending all submissions for a while until I can get caught up. If you are willing to be very patient, I will accept it for review, but I probably would not be able to get to it for several months, about 6-12, at least 6 months. If that is still ok, go ahead and send it to me: becky@rebeccavance.com. I will add it to my queue and get to it as soon as possible. If you are on Goodreads, send me a friend request. All books that I review on my blog, I also review on Amazon and Goodreads, plus I tweet all reviews on Twitter. I do apologize for the long wait, but I have almost 80 TBR in queue right now, and I am working on my own debut novel as well. πŸ™‚ Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks again for writing!

  8. Rebecca,
I was wondering if you’d be willing to add my book to your queue. It’s part one of a series dealing with greek Gods, Western Theology, and mystery. I’ll copy/paste the blurb below. It’s not, by any means, a “religious” fiction. I’m leaving the link below the blurb so if you’re interested, please let me know! Thanks!

The Awakening is a tale of immortals, ancient gods, and a Detective who doesn’t believe in any of it. Detective Ben Stanford is forced to come face to face with theology, mythos and everything he refused to believe in as his world is turned upside down by Mark, the immortal Gospel writer, who requests the detective’s help in finding his missing companion, Judas Iscariot.

As Ben dives deeper into the world of broken Theology, ancient religions and terrifying Greek gods, he’s forced to come to terms with the world where vast forces struggle in their endless game of power. He must make his way, with the help of companions he doesn’t believe in or trust, to try and stop a potential global disaster.

I would love to review it, but I have to be honest, it would be several months before I could get to it due to my extensive queue. If you can deal with the long wait, I would love for you to send me a copy for review. If you have it in mobi (Kindle form) that would be best, if not, a pdf will work too. You can send it to: becky@rebeccavance.com. I will then download it into my Kindle queue. Thanks again! πŸ™‚

  9. Hi Rebecca, From practicing writing, doing promo, and struggling for a measure of success for so many hours of work leading to this one little book, I am finding why Hemingway goes to WW1 front lines as a medic before the US is in the war, so to distinguish himself as a writer after he is wounded in battle. A long hard knocks road reaching for education this has been for me just to write the six easy reading stories in this one little book, Raise the Flag. I am ever so elated that Ernest has cleared a path for the love of literature. When asked who is the best American writer, Hemingway responds to the Maestro from the University of Minnesota who walks to Key West to do an interview, by saying, “None other!” Who you? “Not me and not Faulkner.” Who then? “There is none other in the USA than Mark Twain. The rest of us are hacks. Twain is the only writer in the USA.” And from studying literature, this has been such an enjoyment reading work from historical authors, who blaze a trail for American literature, so here I have something tangible to show from my education. Raise the Flag is a book about my journey for education in six easy reading stories by author design about his journey for education. For a preview and to buy Raise the Flag visit the author’s website http://www.jamesmorebooks.com And now for something new from Something About Hats, Raise the Flag hats are available made to order.

    • Thank you for stopping by my blog and especially for the kind words! I am just starting out on my book, but I love the creative juices as they flood through my head. What genre are you writing? I am not taking on any new review request right now, due to such a large cue, but I also encourage comments and you are welcome to leave a blurb and link to your book. I may be a while until I open up again for requests, but you can always check any updates on the submission requirement page. πŸ™‚

  11. I am so much into journals but working on getting into trilogies and fantasy, i believe one can do anything, right?…I have a number of “never reviewed” manuscripts but currently I am studying BA(creative writing) and i am working on something that I think deserves to be let out my booth, to be read by the whole world. I will be on your next queue. Thank you. Waiting eagerly to read your book.

    • Thanks again for the kind words! I am not sure when I will be able to review again, but I will only be reviewing mystery/suspense and maybe some horror. The problem is that I have taken on too much by being too open with what I’ve been accepting. If I don’t want to get into the same problem of overloading my queue, I have to specialize in a certain genre and since this is what I read and write, I have decided to stick to it. I do encourage you to get them reviewed. If you check on Goodreads, there are a lot of review sites and readers (and other writers too) that are seeking books to review. I would check them out. Sorry I can’t be of any more help. I hope that you will continue to check out the blog though. Things can always change and any updates will be posted on the submission requirements page. I didn’t want you to wait on me, because I am about a year out right now, at least, before I catch up with my queue. Good luck!

  12. Good luck wishes for you, Rebecca. We need good novels for better movies and better shows for mass media for a better future. Raise the Flag is a book with six easy reading stories, by author’ design to encourage reading and appreciation for literature, about this author’s arduous journey for education, thanks to a WW2 vet who returns from war, uses his GI Bill to become a principal, and he encourages my education by keeping me in school for a better future. http://www.jamesmorebooks.com

  13. Rebecca: Hi this is EK Prescott. You kindly sent me an email awhile ago…which I cannot find…that you might be able to review my book in August. I need to send an ALERT….I have pulled book from sales because of the editing issues my publisher needs to address. My book is The Ivy League Chronicles: 9 Squares. I hope to have it back on the market by Nov/Dec. I would like to take you up on a review at that time. I appreciate any reply. Thanks, EK

    • Hi, nice to hear from you again, E.K. I do recall our discussion. It has been a long time ago. My email will only save sent messages for a certain amount of time and then deletes them. The furthest it goes back is September of last year and I didn’t find the email among them, so I have to assume that it was earlier. When I told you that I might be able to review your book in August, that was my reference of time at that time. I have actually suspended new reviews since the end of January. What I have in my queue could last me a year or so. What I can do, is see where I am in the review sequence when you are ready. Since you have contacted me before, you are not technically a “new” request, so I will see what I can do come Nov/Dec. I do have a pdf of 9Squares in my Kindle, but like most of the pdfs it can’t be read in the e-readers because the font is too small. I am unable to open it in my computer either. It says the file is broken or it is the wrong format. So, when you are ready, you will need to send it to me in .mobi format. That is the only format recognized by Kindle. Thanks so much. I apologize and I am sure we can work something out. Thanks for writing.
