I have always wanted to write, but it seemed like there was always one excuse after another why I had to wait. I didn’t have the time, the tools, the inspiration, etc. Well, I now have the time and the tools, and I realized that if I wait for the light bulb to go off and have a dream and the book has written itself..well, I will always be an unpublished author. So, I have decided to get down to business and I am researching and reading a lot, to begin work on my first novel. In the meantime I am reviewing books from other new authors like myself that have under 3 books published. I am sure that there is a lot of talent out there. I would like to thank all of the authors that value my opinion of their work. Most all reviews are from a free copy gifted to me from the author. This in no way affects my opinion and it is understood that the review is an honest opinion as a reader.

    • Yes, I would be happy to. I know that you mentioned that it was on Smashwords. Is it on Amazon too? If it is also on Amazon, my preferred way is to have the author gift a copy to my acct. there at becky@rebeccavance.com. It then downloads directly into my Kindle. I am having a problem downloading files from the computer to my Kindle right now. If it isn’t on Amazon though, I do have an account with Smashwords too, so he could gift me a copy there too.

      It is good to see that more writers are getting a professional edit done prior to uploading their material. While I love reviewing debut authors, and there are some real gems, many I see are riddled with grammatical errors. I understand typos, but if the error is too bad, it distracts from the entire story.

  4. Greetings! Would you be interested in reviewing my book- Tales From A Second Hand Wand Shoppe.
    The story is a 96,000+ word, illustrated, juvenile/young adult+ fantasy fiction (mainly because of the length and younger readers might not get some of the jokes) that centers around two Gnomes – Grimbledung Sixtoes and Drimblerod Axebreath – that join forces to run a second hand wand shop in the previously calm town of Aution. Along with a talking Rat, a mechanimated Jousting Dummy, and a usually helpful (also mechanimated) Door, they run ‘Second Hand Sorcery’. Grimbledung is a bit unstable and tends to cause no end of trouble for his new partner as well as several of their neighbors; namely the Trolless (Nulu Bentknees) who runs the Tavern across the street, and the Dwarf who owns the Haberdashery next door (Pozzuoli Consigliore), as well as the Headmistress of the local School of Magic (Big Julie) who enters into a business arrangement with the Gnomes. The Gnomes’ troubles draw the attention of the local Constable (Akita Finnish) who just wants to spend his time napping in the shade all day, NOT dealing with Grimbledung’s mischief. He’s a werewolf; and contrary to popular fiction, that’s what they prefer to do.

    • Thank you for writing, Lee! Your book sounds absolutely fascinating and I love the twist of being written in the pov of the criminal. That is hard to do and I would love to see how you do it, to be honest. I would be very interested in reviewing it. I normally only review 1 book per author, but in this case, I would make an exception because it is the same story in two parts. I download all books to be reviewed into my Kindle, so if you gift them through Amazon, that would be great. The only problem is my queue. It is very extensive and I’ve been considering suspending all submissions for a while until I can get caught up. If you are willing to be very patient, I will accept it for review, but I probably would not be able to get to it for several months, about 6-12, at least 6 months. Hi Rebecca, From practicing writing, doing promo, and struggling for a measure of success for so many hours of work leading to this one little book, I am finding why Hemingway goes to WW1 front lines as a medic before the US is in the war, so to distinguish himself as a writer after he is wounded in battle. A long hard knocks road reaching for education this has been for me just to write the six easy reading stories in this one little book, Raise the Flag. I am so much into journals but working on getting into trilogies and fantasy, i believe one can do anything, right?…I have a number of “never reviewed” manuscripts but currently I am studying BA(creative writing) and i am working on something that I think deserves to be let out my booth, to be read by the whole world.     • Thanks again for the kind words! I am not sure when I will be able to review again, but I will only be reviewing mystery/suspense and maybe some horror. The problem is that I have taken on too much by being too open with what I’ve been accepting. If I don’t want to get into the same problem of overloading my queue, I have to specialize in a certain genre and since this is what I read and write, I have decided to stick to it. I do encourage you to get them reviewed. If you check on Goodreads, there are a lot of review sites and readers (and other writers too) that are seeking books to review. I would check them out. Sorry I can’t be of any more help. I hope that you will continue to check out the blog though. Things can always change and any updates will be posted on the submission requirements page.     • Hi, nice to hear from you again, E.K. I do recall our discussion. It has been a long time ago. My email will only save sent messages for a certain amount of time and then deletes them. The furthest it goes back is September of last year and I didn’t find the email among them, so I have to assume that it was earlier. When I told you that I might be able to review your book in August, that was my reference of time at that time. I have actually suspended new reviews since the end of January. What I have in my queue could last me a year or so. What I can do, is see where I am in the review sequence when you are ready. Since you have contacted me before, you are not technically a “new” request, so I will see what I can do come Nov/Dec. I do have a pdf of 9Squares in my Kindle, but like most of the pdfs it can’t be read in the e-readers because the font is too small. I am unable to open it in my computer either. It says the file is broken or it is the wrong format. So, when you are ready, you will need to send it to me in .mobi format. That is the only format recognized by Kindle. Thanks so much. I apologize and I am sure we can work something out. Thanks for writing.
